Shades Of......

I am just plainly depressed from the events of the last week – primarily the Santa Ana’s (winds) and the fires. Very little has been positive and while I am normally very positive about life itself, this past week has just been “one of those weeks” where I just can’t seem to shake things to the other side. Also, unfortunately the good things that did happen have now been overshadowed by all of the other things that have happened. [Some very good things happened, and I really need to bring them back to the forefront of my mind.] I need an attitude adjustment! Hopefully, the coming week will change my attitude.

Of course, California has been in all the news this past week with all the fires going on. I had no less than 5 fires close to me. The smoke, ash and cinders were all around throughout the week. The fires, smoke and ash sure brought back memories of the Old Fire which I lived through four years ago beginning coincidentally October 25th, 2003. I remember being ready to evacuate – dogs in one car and the cats in the other, losing power around 2 in the afternoon, saving my house [and the neighbors’] by putting out a fire in the back yard with the hose, staying up on the roof and hosing the house down every hour until just before midnight, and taking a walk throughout the neighborhood at midnight and just seeing how many houses were either gone or on fire. I remember the succeeding days without power as slowly life was restored. I remember neighbors helping each other. These were days and events I really do not want to relive. My heart has been with those who were going through what I did four years ago as I watched the images on the news. My gratitude has been to those who have worked so hard for those affected.

Not a lot has happened on the projects this past week due to the fires and the terrible air quality. I did not want to open up the house to work on my bedroom/bathroom, so I worked on other things inside. This week I am hoping the tides will change and I will accomplish a good bit on my bedroom/bathroom. Also, this coming week – a new front door! I’ll post pictures after it’s installed!

Today, has been a day of music and reflection. I have found this wonderful artist called DAVOL. Their/His music is inspiring and really easy to listen to. Again, I have been reflecting -- what’s really important and what is not for me. I can only hope that I have my priorities correct and those that matter can see…..

As the Tree has many Branches, So Does My Life...and just for last week!

As this tree has many branches, this past week has brought much.

First branch, as a soccer referee. A very good week – two games on Wednesday evening (U16 & U19), one on Friday evening (under 30 coed), three games on Saturday (UI6 & U14), and one on Sunday (under 30 women). Lots of good times had by all – and yes, I can still keep up with the 19 year olds! Thank you Lord for good health!

Second Branch, I have transitioned to look to the future and all the good it will have for me. No longer am I focused on what I have had and have no longer. I am focused on taking all that I have learned from the original KnittyRef and putting it to good use in my future. I know things will be good! I know I will be blessed!

Third branch, my father celebrated his 79th birthday on the 17th. I can say that I am blessed by having both my mother and my father still alive and in good health. I also have my mother-in-law and father-in-law also still living. While my father-in-law struggles day-to-day, my mother-in-law is doing very well. Such a blessing!

Fourth branch, seven months have now passed since Di passed away on the 20th. It was another day of Celebration of her Life – I so cherish the 9 ½ years I had with her and I can only hope I may give all the same love and devotion to another sometime soon!

Fifth branch, my projects are continuing. This week should mark the first time I will be able to sleep in my own bedroom in a long time, while it will be makeshift, it will be my bedroom, and yes the construction will continue.

Sixth branch, Friends, thank you all for all your support, caring, and kindness. One special note though, I have been blessed with a very special friend who has kept me focused on the priorities of life and where life should go. Everyone needs to have at least one friend like this in their life! They allow one to have a blessed and fulfilled life because of what they give! I can only hope I will be able to give back a fraction of what I have received.

Seventh branch, the Holidays are coming and they will be days of Celebration! I am planning on continuing so many of the family traditions without regret. Yes, there will be one missing, however, there will be others added from the many friendships that have been added to my life this year.

Finally, an Eighth branch – I hope that my time will free up and I will be able to try my hand at spinning my own yarn in preparation for projects to come. One can never have too many projects on the slate!

Thank You all, my family, my neighbors, my friends, and my one very special friend…..

Let's Celebrate! and Projects, Projects....

Let us Celebrate!

Today the original KnittyRef would have been 47. I have asked many and I ask you to today -- take a moment and CELEBRATE something you hold dear in your heart from Diane or something about Diane. She touched each and everyone she met in a very special way – I so cherish all she taught me and showed me about life and relationships. So today is a wonderful day of Celebration!

Projects & Projects:
My life is full of projects around the house. The knitting and spinning will have to wait until I get my house back in order! Shouldn’t be too long though! My bedroom and bathroom are being completely redone. Right now they are down to the wall studs and ceiling joists. The new electrical is complete and I am ready to drywall. From there – there will be a new shower with cultured marble and glass block, new windows in both the bedroom and bathroom, and a new updated closet. In addition to the bedroom, I am in the process of building a new fence around the back yard and I have to put a new roof on the house this fall – so that will be coming! Of course, the new roof will mean the addition of a couple of skylights – a welcome addition to a dark kitchen and hallway! And I should paint the outside of the house, but I don’t know if there will be time before the holidays.
