Memories, Events and Startis and not much Endis…..

Memories, Events and Startis and not much Endis…..

Sorry, but it’s the hubster AGAIN!

The knittyref hasn’t been feeling up to snuff—lots of sleeping and not really feeling all that good as she gets ready for her next protocol of chemo on Wednesday. Of course, if you haven’t heard, the bizzarro weather we’ve had for the last few days hasn’t helped any – snow, yes SNOW in southern California, just over a week ago and then the WIND – you know Mariah! Well, yesterday was the first day in over 2 weeks she’s had the opportunity to sit outside and bask in the sun.

I know, to most people 1 inch of snow doesn’t mean much, but around here, it’s big stuff. We had the hail storm last year that made it look like snow, but this was the real, honest-to-goodness stuff. It stuck around a lot longer than I anticipated, probably 1 to 1-1/2 hours. So it made me think about cold weather gear. We spent last weekend in Henderson, NV visiting the in-laws, where the warmest it ever got was upper 40’s.

Anyway, I said MEMORIES…. Well, it’s now 9 years to the day since I [the hubster] cruised into town (with some bare necessities – you know – some personal things, 2 dogs, the dog house [in case I really ticked her off], a computer, and a vehicle) to see if the knittyref and I could put together the wonderful life we have had all these years. I remember entering the State of California very early in the morning and the officer at the entry station asking me if I had any animals just as one of my dogs (Great Pyrenees) poked a huge head out the window – surprise! WOW!, what a ride the knittyref and I have had since then!

Then, I said EVENTS…. Well, the girl-child has asked -- and has moved back in with her “significant other” as of this past weekend (with major conditions attached). We now have a full house as both of the kids are now home (19 and 20)! The knittyref is glad to have the girl-child present, but, only time will tell if this is for the best…..

So instead of packing the sweater that’s ¾’s finished, or the waterfall scarf. The knittyref started a hat from some of the Noro leftover from the sweater she finished in November. And, because she wanted to make a pair of combo gloves/mittens as the others were wearing out so fast, she packed the equipment necessary for that. The yarn for these, by the way, is some of the New Zealand haul. It’s a rather unusual fiber combination. It’s 30% possum and 70% merino. Interesting, eh? In NZ possum are not a native inhabitant, and in fact at rather destructive. They are one of the main reasons the Kiwi bird is an endangered species (the possums eat the eggs). All that said, the yarn is incredibly soft and warm.

And, just cause the yarn is so pretty, she started a scarf from the lace-weight yarn she also hauled back from NZ. So there you see, with the exception of the 2-sided sweater, all the current projects she has going. So since she’s only knitting a couple rows a day, this may well be her project output for 2007. (her words) We’ll see……

In closing, I sincerely hope that this latest protocol will bring the knittyref a renewed energy as she certainly is due…. Thanks for all of your thoughts and support out there!

Hope everything works out good with you daughter being home. Sounds like she has lots of great projects going. That possum/merino yarn sounds wonderful. I'll be keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers.
